Raúl Barboza and Daniel Díaz

Chamamé Accordionist Raúl Barboza Releases “Toda una Vida Volviendo” Single

Raúl Barboza, the 84-year-old Argentine accordionist known for his mastery of chamamé and coastal music, has released a new single titled “Toda una Vida Volviendo”. The single serves as a preview for the upcoming album, created in collaboration with the composer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Díaz. The album, titled “Souvenirs Panamericanos by Barboza & Díaz”, is set to be released on March 21, 2023, on the Cézame Latin label.

Both musicians, who are based in Paris, drew inspiration from the pandemic to create the album, fusing chamamé with jazz, tango, and experimental music. Barboza, who was born in Buenos Aires and raised by parents from Corrientes, has become a revered ambassador for Argentine music in Europe, working with legendary artists such as Mercedes Sosa and Atahualpa Yupanqui throughout his career. Meanwhile, Díaz, a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist with a cosmopolitan background, has collaborated with artists across various genres, including rock, tango, and jazz.

Despite their different musical backgrounds, Barboza and Díaz have managed to create a truly collaborative project, combining their two distinct ways of working in the studio to produce a unique sound. “Toda una Vida Volviendo” highlights this sound, evoking nostalgia before transitioning to an upbeat rhythm. As Díaz explains, “As much as sometimes we are clearly in my creative territory and sometimes in Raúl’s, we both recognize each other in each note, in each moment of this journey as a duo.”
