Dorantes, a renowned flamenco pianist, has taken a new direction in his career with his seventh solo album. Improvisation is now the main focus of his work, which has been developed over the course of two years of touring and was recorded live and solo on piano to capture the most natural sound possible.
Unlike previous recordings where Dorantes used an ensemble with a rhythm section and other instruments, Identidad: Live in Concert features a set of brilliant solo piano performances, highlighting Dorantes’ impressive skill, his alchemy of flamenco, jazz and beyond, all intertwined masterfully and beautifully.
Dorantes’ music is influenced by Flamenco, classical and jazz, giving it a universal feel while also maintaining a personal touch. He draws inspiration from his own memories and experiences, using traditional flamenco forms such as soleá, bulería, seguiriya, alegrías, tangos, rondeña, and granaína to create evocative and descriptive music with a strong emphasis on lyricism and intimacy. The album also includes experimentation, with the added challenge of improvisation on each track.
