DJ Mam brought together Gilberto Gil, Sônia Guajajara, Margareth Menezes and 50 other artists to perform the song Demarcação Já. it’s a tribute to the indigenous peoples of Brazil, emphasizing the right to land and the right to life. The track was written by lyricist Carlos Rennó with singer and composer Chico César, for the campaign by Greenpeace Brasil, Instituto Socioambiental and Bem-Te-Vi Diversidade.
The demarcation of indigenous lands is a right guaranteed since the 1988 Constitution and has not been fulfilled. Deforestation has risen 60% since 2019. With newly elected president Lula’s return, two internationally celebrated Amazon defenders, Marina Silva and Sônia Guajajara, have been named as environment minister and minister for Indigenous peoples, in Brazil’s new government in an attempt to contain the intensifying assault on Indigenous territories and the environment.
The music video is by director André D’Elia. The film is a partnership of organizations such as Greenpeace, the Socio-Environmental Institute (ISA), Bem-Te-Vi Diversidade and the Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil (Apib).
