Artist Profiles: Northern Resonance

Northern Resonance is a trio of Swedish musicians dedicated to the art of resonance, specifically the resonant possibilities of their individual instruments. The band members have different musical backgrounds, including folk and classical music. The format is a previously untested combination: Anna Ekborg playing the viola d’amore; Jerker Hans-Ers on the Hardanger and octave fiddles; and Petrus Dillner on nyckelharpa.

With the resonating strings of each musician as their common denominator, they develop and perform expanding soundscapes where intricate arrangements of traditional songs and dances from a wide range of Scandinavian sources (reinlenders, lullabies, polkas, marches, gangars and more) are augmented through fine improvisation.

In the fall of 2020, Northern Resonance released their self-titled debut album accompanied by a release tour in Sweden.

In 2021, Northern Resonance was selected to perform an official showcase at the prestigious WOMEX 2021 world music conference.

The second album, Vision of Three, was released in early 2024 on the Trad Records label.
