Evritiki Zygia – Ormenion (Teranga Beat, 2020)

Ormenion is an album by Greek band Evritiki Zygia. The group comes from Evros, in northeastern Greece, which is part of Thrace, an ancient region rich in historical and musical traditions.

Evritiki Zygia was formed in 2007 with the goal of preserving and evolving Thracian musical traditions. The arrangements used are different from the music played at local celebrations and festivals. On Ormenion, the musicians showcase their skill ad instrumetalists and also developed their improvisational side. A typically psychedelic element was added by the use of the CRB Elettronica- Diamond 800 organ and the Moog synthesizer.

The lineup includes Aggelos Stratos on davul, percussion; Alexios Partinoudis on Thracian Lyre; Spyros Stratos on bagpipe; Stratis Passopoulos on vocals, kaval; and Yiorgos Drikoudis on organ, accordion.
