Ghanaian Neo-Highlife Band Santrofi to Release Alewa

Santrofi, a Ghanaian band from Accra, founded by bassist and producer Emmanuel Ofori, has a new album titled Alewa (Outhere records) scheduled for release April 24, 2020.

Ofori became a band leader after playing will well-known Ghanaian artists such as Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas and Kwashibu Area Band.

The Santrofi collective includes eight musicians who perform music deeply rooted in vintage Ghanaian highlife music. The influences include 1970s dance-guitar highlife and highlife funk as well as polyrhythmic grooves and melodies from Afrobeat.

Band members include bassist Emmanuel Ofori; electric guitarist Dominic Quarchie; rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist Robert ‘Nsoroma’ Koomson; trombonist Bernard Gyamfi; trumpeter Norbert Wonkyi; drummer Prince Larbi; keyboardist Emmanuel Boakye Agyeman; and percussionist Victor Nii Amoo.
