Alonso Núñez Fernández, better known as Rancapino Chico, was born in Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz, Spain) on December 7, 1988. He was born in a family of celebrated flamenco artists who specialize in cante jondo (the deeply rooted pure flamenco). He is the son of maestro Alonso Núñez Núñez ‘Rancapino’ and Juana Fernandez Nuñez, nephew of Orillo del Puerto and grat-grandson of La Obispa .
Rancapino started performing at six years old in the children’s TV show “Veo Veo” on Canal Sur (a regional network in southern spain), presented by Teresa Rabal, where he won an award in the category of rising talent. he first revelation prize. The great cantaor Antonio Fernandez Diaz (Fosforito) awarded him the prize.
After that, Rancapino Chico had his debut at Teatro Falla and he appeared on stage along with flamenco stars. Top guitarists accompanied him: Paco Cepero, Juan Habichuela, Moraito Chico, Quique Paredes.
At 17, appeared on a Canal Sur show presented by famed Spanish singer María Jímenez. At 22, he participated in the Chiclana de la Frontera peña flamenca (flamenco club) contest, where he won the first prize, singing flamenco styles such as martinetes, fandangos and bulerías.
He also performed with his father Alonso Núnez “Rancapino” on several occasions.
Nowadays, Rancapino Chico is considered one of the finest performers of pure Flamenco, specially the Cádiz songs.
