Wherever Yet May Be (Compass Records COM 4542, 2010)

Scotland’s Old Blind Dogs have released Wherever Yet May Be this month. Old Blind Dog is one of the most veteran and reputable Scottish folk music bands. they are celebrating their 18th anniversary as a band. Band members have varied throughout the year. The current line-up includes Aaron Jones on vocals, bouzouki, guitar, and electric bass; Jonny Hardie on fiddle, mandolin, guitar, vocals; Fraser Stone on drums, percussion; and Ali Hutton on pipes, whistles and guitar.

The material on Wherever Yet May Be is a mixture of instrumentals and ballads rearranged by the band and contemporary material by Davy Steele, Andy M. Stewart and new band member Ali Hutton who provides several pieces. With Hardie’s virtuoso fiddle and Hutton’s magnificent whistle and pipe work, Old Blind Dogs demonstrate that they are still one of the essential bands in the Celtic music circuit with their music rooted in Scottish tradition and other elements borrowed from neighboring Ireland and American newgrass.

Wherever Yet May Be is Old Blind Dogs’s tenth studio album and was recorded at Gran’s House Studio in Lamington, Scotland. It is also the first Dogs album to feature multi-instrumentalist Ali Hutton, who joined in the Fall of 2008.
