Rajnarayan Bhattacharya

Early on Rajnarayan Bhattacharya received encouragement from his mother Smt. Nilima Bhattacharya, a disciple of Pt. Ramesh Bandopadhyay of Vishnupur Gharana, and started his musical training with his father Bhudeb Bhattacharya at the age of five. Thereafter, noted tabla player Banaras Gharana and disciple of Gaur Paul, Sri Amiya Kumar Mukherjee took of the charge of Rajnarayan Bhattacharya?s musical training. He received the degree of Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad and Sangeet Sudhakar from Surer Maya Sangeet Samaj and was awarded the Gold Medal. He also received a Sangeet Alankar degree with the encouragement of his uncle Dr. Saroj Kumar Bhattacharya. He soon procured second position in the Inter Collegiate Music Competition, organized by Calcutta University, in the year 1982-83. He also stood second in the National Youth Festival, organized by Y.M.C.A. New Delhi.

At present Rajnarayan is receiving intensive training from renowned tabla maestro and teacher of Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, Pt. Samar Saha of Banaras Gharana. He is selected as a panel artist of Indian Council For Cultural Relation, under the Ministry of External Affairs by the government of India.

He has performed at the Dover Lane Music Conference, Kolkata; Bhowanipore Sangeet Sammelan, Kolkata; National Youth Festival, New Delhi; the Conference Of Sur Singer Samsad, Mumbai; the Conference Of Indian Council For Cultural Relation, Bangalore; Srutinandan, Kolkata And Conference Of Saraj, Newdelhi. Abroad, Rajnarayan Bhattacharya has performed for Radio France In 2002; Centre Mandapa, Paris, France; World Youth Conference, Milan, Italy In 2004; Music Festival, Sturtgard, Germany In 2002; Suddha Sangeet Prosar Gosthi, Dhaka , Bangladesh in 2003 and a workshop program organized by ICCR in Bangladesh as a tabla guru in 2006 and 2007, among other programs.
