Festival International de Louisiane has revealed the list of 2018 performers. The 5-day will be held April 25-29, 2018 in downtown Lafayette, Louisiana.
This year’s world music and roots artists include Jupiter & Okwess (DR Congo), Innov Gnawa (Morocco), Mydy Rabycad (Czech Republic), Zachary Richard (Louisiana), and Sidi Touré (Mali).
Also featured are Latin American-inspired Ladama, Ibibio Sound Machine from Nigeria and female kora player from Gambia, Sona Jobarteh. Returning this year by popular demand are world fusion act Niyaz from Iran accompanied by a whirling dervish dancer, as well as pop rocker Lisa LeBlanc and fiddler Dominique Dupuis — both representing New Brunswick.
Intensely special this year are the last shows at Scène LUS International on Sunday. Congrés mondial 2019 kitchen party will be a massive collaborative show featuring Lisa LeBlanc, Jacobus (of Radio Radio), Zachary Richard, Florent Vollant, Dominique Dupuis, Dans l’shed, Ten Strings & a Goat Skin, Shauit and Jeunes Chanteurs d’Acadie.
The festival is following that up with a grand finale tribute show to Dockside Studio and Steve and Cezanne Nails. This show is hosted by Lafayette’s own Givers and will feature special guests, Marc Broussard, Marcia Ball, Terrance Simien, Lost Bayou Ramblers, Dylan Nails, Susan Cowsill and Vicki Petersen, Roddie Romero, Yvette Landry & more.
“Some of the countries that have rarely, if ever, been represented at Festival this year are Tuva, Czech Republic, Gambia.” says Programming Director, Lisa Stafford. “The throat singing of Tuva, for example, is just mind-blowing to witness. It will be very special to bring all of these cultures to south Louisiana.”
