Flamenco Festival London is set to open on February 14th. Mujer y Creación (Women and Creativity) is the motto of the 15th anniversary of Flamenco Festival London that goes beyond the classical image of the flamenco dancer, to reclaim the stories of women, in their tireless search to make tangible their own realities. They are creators of today who use flamenco art to break barriers and move forward towards the freedom that art gives them.
The program opens on Wednesday, February 14, with Tempo de Luz by acclaimed singer Carmen Linares, plus two of the essential vocalists of the scene, Arcángel and Marina Heredia. They will be accompanied in this Flamenco Festival production by the versatile dancer Ana Morales and the virtuoso accompaniment on guitar by Miguel Ángel Cortés, José Quevedo “Bolita”, and the percussion of Paquito González, presenting the fire and passion of flamenco in an evening of incomparable art that ranges from its gypsy roots to the most modern innovations.
The leading performer of modern flamenco dance María Pagés Compañía will perform Yo Carmen, from Thursday 15 to Saturday 17.
Dancers Úrsula López, Tamara López and Leonor Leal are set to perform on Sunday, February 18.
In what is an extraordinary collaboration with the avant-garde dancer and choreographer Israel Galván, the classical dancer Isabel Bayón reinvents herself and explores the demons and superstitions of the flamenco world with her show Dju-Dju on Tuesday, February 20.
From 21 and until Friday 23, the London theater hosts the Flamenco Gala La Chana, Goddess of Compas (the beat), where tribute is paid to a great dance teacher, La Chana, accompanied by one of the most renowned dancers in history , Antonio Canales; a visceral talent, El Farru; and a young representative of the legendary Moneo family, Gem Moneo.
The last Saturday of February, the 24th, the Flamenco Ballet of Jesús Carmona will present Ímpetus, a work full of emotion that interprets in an irresistible way some of the most famous compositions of Spanish authors through its impressive taconeo (heel rhythmic stomping) and its movements influenced by ballet.
The Rafaela Carrasco Dance Company will perform on Sunday, February 25th its show Nacida sombra that vindicates the great creators of the Golden Age, reinterpreting Baroque music through the rhythms and echoes of flamenco.
