The Festival Internacional de Música de Alturas (International Highlands Music Festival, FIMA) is seeking musicians from the highlands of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela and other mountain areas in the world to participate in its second edition, to be held in Lima, Peru, from March 11 through March 13, 2016.
The festival, an initiative originated in Peru in 2014, seeks to present, encounter and integrate the music and cultures of the mountain regions. During its first edition in 2014, the festival brought together musicians from three mountain areas, the Alps, Andes, and Himalayas.
The application period, open from April 6 to July 6, includes vocals, all musical genres indigenous to a country or region, unpublished and known compositions as well as all musical instruments heard and played in the Andean and highland countries. The selection of artists is made by the director of the French Institute of Andean Studies Gérard Borras; singer, musician and promoter of Andean culture Ballon Leo Casas; the director of the festival Liana Cisneros; and journalist, producer and host of the De Canto a Canto radio show at Radio Filarmonía Carlos Flores Ledesma.
“We want to show the beauty and great musical richness of the Andean countries, so that musicians will allow us to travel and learn about their roots, like their counterparts in other mountains and continents and thus strengthen integration ties,” says Leo Casas.
FIMA, organized by the Asociación Arte de Alturas (Highland Arts Association), sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of Peru, embassies of France and Switzerland, the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru, the Lima Alliance Francaise, Notaría Hidalgo (Hidalgo notary), and Centro Cultural de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (CCPUCP).
