Global Beat Festival Returns to New York in May 2015

The Global Beat Festival, a free three-day world music festival, will return to the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place in New York City from Thursday, May 7th to Saturday, May 9th.

May 7, 2015:

The Libyans will make their US debut. The group has given new life to the sacred music of the Jews of Libya that was on the verge of being lost to the world.

Feedel Band is among the leading acts of Ethiojazz, a merging of 1960s jazz and R&B with traditional Ethiopian songs and instruments.

May 8, 2015:

Niyaz is an Iranian ensemble of global trance pioneers whose fourth studio album, The Fourth Light, was released on Six Degrees Records.

Emel Mathlouthi’s protest song “Kelmti Horra (My Word is Free)” was embraced by the Arab Spring revolutionaries in 2010 and soon became an anthem throughout the region.

May 9, 2015:

Guayo Cedeño and Coco Bar will make their New York Debut. The Honduran surf guitar of Guayo Cedeño and Coco Bar will be joined by the famed Garifuna singer/songwriter Aurelio Martinez.

Flavia Coelho’s Mundo Meu. The Brazilian artist based in France makes music that ranges from Brazil’s urban baile funk and forro to Jamaican ragga and hip-hop. Coelho’s latest CD, Mundo Meu, will debut in the U.S. this spring.
