King Sunny Adé & His African Beats Return to New York in June 2015

Celebrated Nigerian singer, composer, and musician King Sunny Adé & His African Beats is set to perform on Friday, June 26, 2015, at 92nd Street Y. This performance is part of an extensive North American tour. The concert opens World Music Institute’s 30th Anniversary Season.

King Sunny Adé is one of the leading Juju music acts. He will be accompanied by His African Beats, an ensemble of 17 musicians and vocalists and a rotation of 5 dancers.

The influential Nigerian musician released a set of landmark recordings, including Juju Music(1982) released by Island Records.

King Sunny Adé developed an electrified version of traditional, acoustic Yoruban music, characterized by the use of the talking drums, massive African percussion, chanting vocals and guitar lines leading to a hypnotic dance party.
