Eve (429 Records), the latest recording by Beninese world music star Angelique Kidjo won the World Music Grammy at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. “This album is dedicated to the women of Africa, to their beauty and resilience,” said Kidjo this afternoon at a ceremony held prior the televised awards. “For me, music is a weapon of peace, and today more than ever, as artists we have a role to play in the stability of this world,” she added.

Kidjo was born in Cotonou and was raised in Quidah, a small coastal city of Benin, a country that harbors numerous cultures. She normally sings in Fon, even though she also sings in English and French.
