British world music band Baka Beyond is back with an album titled After the Tempest, where the band delivers an electro-acoustic worldbeat mix of African, Celtic, and reggae music.

Baka Beyond is best known for its work supporting the Baka forest people of Cameroon. The band’s first album, “Spirit of the Forest”, released 21 years ago, was a world music hit. The African component of Baka Beyond‘s music is deeply inspired by the music of the Baka people. The Baka are a regular guest on the band’s recordings.

After the Tempest includes vocals and fiddle from the Celtic tradition, African style electric guitars, reggae beats, pan-African percussion, jamming, and yodeling-style Baka vocals and percussion.

Group leaders, guitarist Martin Cradick and vocalist Su Hart spend several months each year with the Baka in Cameroon, were they manage the charity Global Music Exchange. The live version of Baka Beyond includes Martin Cradick on guitar, Su Hart on vocals, Kibisingo Douglas on bass, Ayodele Scott on percussion, Paddy Le Mercier on violin, Clyde Kramer on drums, and Ellie Jamison on vocals. In addition to the previously cited artists, the After the Tempest album also includes Molara on vocals. The Baka Forest People wrote some of the songs and provided vocals and traditional instruments on several tracks.

All royalties owed to the Baka musicians go to them via the registered charity, Global Music Exchange, www.1heart.org.

On After the Tempest, Baka Beyond affirm their passion for the music and culture of the Baka forest people of Cameroon.
