Flow and Change (Gonzo Multimedia, 2013)

While mainstream music gets more homogenous, there has been a rebirth of progressive music in recent years. This exciting musical umbrella includes folk music with an open mind that incorporates various forms of rock, fusion, classical music, etc. Renowned singer Judy Dyble was a member of the seminal English folk band Fairport Convention and she has released two great albums in recent years where she collaborates with musicians from the rock world and other genres.

Judy Dyble’s latest album is Flow and Change and it is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed ‘Talking with Strangers‘. The exquisite Flow and Change was produced and partly co-written by Alistair Murphy (The Curator). Guests come from the rock and classical fields, including vocalists Matt Malley (Counting Crows) and Julianne Regan (All About Eve), drummer Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson) & lap steel guitarist Mike Mooney (Echo and the Bunnymen , Spiritualized). The string arrangements are by Phil Toms.

The CD booklet contains the lyrics to Judy Dyble’s fascinating songs that take you to a magical world of fantasy, intimate emotions and wonder. The lyrics are accompanied by outstanding artwork by Catherine Hyde and Jackie Morris.

Judy has had health problems that prevent her from traveling far away from her home so she relied on a laptop computer to communicate and collaborate with many of the musicians. Technology has allowed this ‘old school’ folk musician to access a wide range of old and new musical friends that ended up participating in her album.

Sisterhood of Ruralists (edit) on YouTube:

Judy Dyble has done it again and has recorded another exceptionally good album of 21st century English folk music.
