Eastern Blok releases their highly awaited second album, Folk Tales. Featuring expanded instrumentation, complex high-energy arrangements with a folk sensibility, “Folk Tales” reaches a new level of maturity. Now Eastern Blok is taking it on the road with performances in major cities across the Midwest and East coast.
After performing over 100 shows a year and selling thousands of records, Eastern Blok – formerly known as The Goran Ivanovic Group – has recorded a new album and has been successfully packing venues throughout the country since the release of their self-titled debut album in 2005.
The group features classical guitar virtuoso GORAN IVANOVIC, DOUG ROSENBERG on saxophone and flute, MATTHEW ULERY on bass, and MICHAEL CASKEY, a five-time Detroit Music Award and Downbeat Magazine Award winner, on drums. EASTERN BLOK holds its own during this seeming glut of Balkan dance bands in the United States.
Drawing upon highly dynamic classical and jazz aesthetics rather than relying on the recent fad of gypsy-jam-band antics, Eastern Blok maintains a timeless sound and virtuosic approach. From appearing on NPR to headlining the Chicago World Music Festival, EASTERN BLOK works without borders and it’s reflected in their dynamic music.
