The Old Town School of Folk Music will two Latin music heavy weights in September. On September 12, 2008 at 7:30pm, Cuban flute sensation Maraca & The New Collective with perform at Old Town School. Mexican world music diva Lila Downs will perform Tuesday, September 30 at 7:30pm at Harris Theater.

Maraca was a child prodigy who started his musical career at the age of 16 as flute player in the group Irakere, led by Chucho Valdés. He has grown to become one of the most popular names in Latin and Afro-Cuban music. His music is a *censormode*tail of fusion and energy that stems from the jazziest improvisations to the most danceable elements of Caribbean and popular Cuban music.

Mexican-American singer Lila Downs is blessed with a distinctive and passionate voice. She combines formal vocal training while tapping into the indigenous Mixtec traditions of her mother, creating a beautiful musical blend sung in several languages including Zapotec, Mayan, Spanish and English.
