The Great Summer Festival of World Cultures, Pirineos Sur, Returns to the Pyrenees

The 20th International Festival of World Cultures Pirineos Sur 2011 will take place July 14 to 31 at the picturesque Valle de Tena in Huesca (Spanish Pyrenees), offering a generous and innovative exchange within cultural variety from all over the Iberian Peninsula.

After two decades bringing artist from all five continents in order to explore and show distant and various artistic expressions, this new edition turns a glance at artists that are closers. Which means in Luis Calvo’s words, its Festival Director, “a maturity test”.

Andrés Calamaro, Rubén Blades, Ojos de Brujo, Kiko Veneno, Albert Plá, Katia Guerreiro, Russian Red, El Guincho, Miguel Poveda… The full artist lineup announces a selection of brilliant musicians from across Spain and Portugal, as well as artists from other countries.

For the past twenty years, nearly 600 musicians from all over the world have performed on stage, watched by more than 800,000 people. It has been a new and challenging approach towards cultural diversity, taking place ever since at Auditorio Natural de Lanuza, in Huesca.

This year the festival is joining forces with L’Boulevard from Casablanca, Morocco, and Festa 2H from Dakar, Senegal; yet again an appeal for opportunities on cultural exchange and partnership.

Paco Paricio, from Titiriteros de Binéfar, will join École National du Cirque Shems’y from Salé (Morocco) in making a project called “Vida”.
