Mason Via’s Latest Single: A Riveting Tale of an Outlaw on the Run

There Goes Another One” (Mountain Fever Records) marks a powerful new addition to Mason Via’s discography, combining vivid storytelling with propulsive instrumentation. The single narrates the compelling story of a fugitive on the run, capturing the tension of evading justice while reckoning with the personal consequences of his actions.

The release exemplifies Via’s talent with his lyrical precision, high-octane delivery, and skillful musicianship.

Via has been a prominent figure in the Americana and bluegrass scenes since the release of his debut album, New Horizons. Over the past three years, he has toured extensively as the youngest member of Old Crow Medicine Show, contributing guitar, vocals, and songwriting to their Grammy-nominated album Jubilee. His songwriting credits also include tracks on Molly Tuttle’s Grammy-winning Golden Highway and Del McCoury’s Grammy-nominated Almost Proud.

About the new single, Mason says: “This song was co-written with Christian Ward, who you might know from his work on Billy Strings’ hit ‘Red Daisy.’ I came into the writing session with this mean riff in my head, and we started crafting lyrics to match the intense, angry vibe of the melody. It became what I’d call my ‘Outlaw’ song for this album—about a lone desperado on the run, trying to navigate a world where the walls keep closing in. This track is the fastest on the album, and it really shows off what the band can do. They all come from the Galax school of Mash-grass, so there’s a raw, energetic vibe that we wanted to capture in the recording. We went in with a ‘take no prisoners’ attitude, and I even ended up singing the lead vocal in just one take!

Musicians on the track include Mason Via on lead vocals and guitar; Aaron Ramsey on mandolin; Jason Davis on banjo; Jim Van Cleve on fiddle; Jeff Partin on bass and resophonic guitar; Kyser George on guitar; Brooks Forsyth on harmony vocals; and Nick Goad on harmony vocals.
