Flamenco Star Argentina Unveils her Affection for Havana in ‘Mi idilio con La Habana’

Argentina – Mi idilio con La Habana (LP Flamenco, 2024)

Gifted Spanish flamenco singer, Argentina (Argentina María López Tristancho), has released her seventh studio album, Mi idilio con La Habana. This project takes listeners through a colorful, dazzling and multiflavored musical journey filled with passion and nostalgia. Indeed, Argentina and her colleagues engage into a striking amalgamation of Flamenco rhythms and melodies, son cubano, salsa, and bolero. These diverse styles combine seamlessly in perfect harmony.

Argentina immerses audiences in the charm and magic of Havana with this captivating album, evoking a range of emotions from the first chord. In Argentina’s words, “I want the audience to feel what my time in this city has meant to me, one of the music capitals of the world.”

The idea for this album started in 2019 with an impromptu viral video recording of her singing with Cuba’s Grupo Evolución at the La Vitrola Restaurant in Old Havana.

Currently, Argentina is one of the most powerful and recognized voices in contemporary flamenco, nominated several times for the Latin Grammy Awards. This time she ventures for the first time into the world of Latin music fused with her traditional flamenco style. Her versatility, the richness of her voice, and her chameleon-like ability to adapt to any musical genre and make it her own, make her a universal artist.

The album was recorded in the iconic Abdala Studios in Havana, where many Cuban music legends have recorded, as well as in Jerez de la Frontera, Seville, Valencia, Bollullos del Condado (Huelva), and Morón de la Frontera (Seville). It features collaborations with Son de Cuba & Compañía, the celebrated Cuban singer-songwriter Pancho Céspedes, as well as Plena 79 Salsa Orchestra, the first Spanish group nominated in the salsa category at the Latin Grammy Awards 2023.

Argentina announced this week that she will be performing at the Flamenco Biennial of Seville 2024, specifically on October 1st at one of Spain’s most important music venues, the Teatro de la Maestranza.
