Inteligencia Orgánica (IO) is a Spain-based cross-cultural ensemble that brings together leading figures from diverse musical traditions: Karen Lugo (dance), Momi Maiga (kora), Aleix Tobías (drums), Guillem Aguilar (bass), Itamar Doari (percussion), and Carles Dénia (vocals and guitar). Each artist is a respected figure within their discipline, contributing a distinctive voice shaped by their personal heritage and artistic journey.
The project is rooted in the intersection of flamenco, Spanish folk music, and Mandinka traditions from West Africa. Rather than merely drawing inspiration from these sources, IO actively combines them, fostering a fluid and emotionally resonant musical exchange. The ensemble prioritizes organic integration over stylistic compartmentalization, allowing each tradition to speak both independently and in harmony.
Improvisation serves as a cornerstone of their performances. Far from being incidental, it is the very mechanism through which the group navigates and negotiates their shared artistic space.
