Violeta Veinte – Alorí (self-release, 2024)
Alorí takes its name from a childhood greeting between enchanting singer and fiddler Violeta Veinte and her grandfather, Argimiro, a farmer in Membibre de la Hoz, a small town in Segovia, central Spain. This EP is a tribute to Segovia province and its rural landscape, where cultural heritage remains, as urban noise fades into silence. However, Alorí is not a folk album in the traditional sense. Instead, it is a charming recording that seamlessly combines pop, world music, and jazz.
The project features original compositions alongside reinterpretations of traditional songs, incorporating jazz improvisation and harmonies alongside the melodies, structures, and rhythms of Spanish and global folk traditions. These elements are further shaped by contemporary production and arrangements.
The elegant and deeply absorbing songs, in Spanish, are vocal-driven and enriched by Violeta’s violin plus a jazz ensemble featuring Javier Rubio on guitar, backing vocals; Érika López on piano; Marc Pinyol on drums; and Javier Moreno on double bass.
