Djam! is a high energy collaboration between two exceptional guitarists: Joep Pelt and Bounaly Traoré. Joep, who honed his chops learning from blues legends in the Mississippi Delta, has since explored the musical genres of Mali, South Africa, and Ethiopia. His style seamlessly bridges global genres, highlighting his versatile approach to the guitar.
Meanwhile, Bounaly Traoré, celebrated as a leading guitarist from North Mali, infuses the hypnotic melodies of the Sahel with the irresistible rhythms of Bamako. Their partnership is enriched by drummer Randell Sambo and bassist Kyan Sambo, whose modern soul, funk, and Caribbean influences bring a diverse, contemporary edge to the overall sound.
The group’s name, Djam!, echoes the Malian expression for “happiness,” a reflection of resilience in the face of adversity. Rooted in the cultural heartbeat of Niafunké, the music aims to bridge divides with its universal message.
