Enriquito: A Multifaceted Trumpeter and Pioneer in Flamenco Jazz

Enrique Rodríguez, known as “Enriquito,” is a Spanish trumpeter and composer born in Puertollano (Ciudad Real). Raised in a musical household with a pianist mother and a bassist father, he was immersed in music from a young age. By age eight, he began formal trumpet studies, ultimately earning his degree in 2009 from the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Córdoba.

At 14, Enriquito expanded his musical repertoire, exploring jazz fusion and flamenco. He gained experience performing with groups such as Lolaimon and Tune Up, combning diverse styles that shaped his distinctive sound.

In 2005, Enriquito was invited by Jorge Pardo to participate in international festivals and recording projects, contributing to albums like Vientos Flamencos II, Huellas (2013), and Djinn. His work on Huellas earned him recognition as the Best European Musician by the French Jazz Academy, cementing his status as an influential figure in jazz, flamenco, and improvised music.

Since 2012, Enriquito has released three solo albums: Me Quito el Sombrero (2012), Alcudia (2014), and Contrarreloj (2016).

In addition to his solo career, he has been a member of notable bands like Canteca de Macao, Chambao, and Juanito Makandé, where he also served as musical director and co-producer for El Habitante de la Tarde Roja.
