Miramar Celebrates Transnational Bolero in “En Mis Sueños”

Richmond-based Bolero Beat ensemble Miramar has announced their upcoming album, Entre Tus Flores, set for release on January 10 via Ansonia Records. The album promises a seamless combination of tradition and innovation, drawing from the band members’ diverse cultural roots: Puerto Rican vocalist Rei Álvarez, Chilean-American keyboardist Marlysse Simmons, and vocalist Laura Ann Singh, who brings influences from Appalachian and Brazilian music. Together, they craft a sound that honors bolero‘s legacy while exploring new stylistic boundaries.

The album announcement comes alongside the release of “En Mis Sueños,” a moving track originally written by Puerto Rican poet and songwriter Sylvia Rexach. “It’s a sweet song,” the band shares. “On the surface, it feels whimsical and fun, but it carries deep emotions of longing, sadness, and nostalgia. You can dance to it or cry to it, depending on the day.”

Miramar’s music is deeply rooted in bolero traditions, yet it incorporates elements of 1960s and 1970s such as Nuevo Romántico, Mexican pop ballads, Cuban filín, and Venezuelan Onda Nueva. The band’s dedication to the genre’s soulful, romantic essence is evident throughout their work, including their exploration of Bolero Beat; a style that fuses bolero with psychedelic rock, folk, funk, and bossa nova.

Previously signed to iconic labels like Daptone and Barés Records, Rei and Marlysse also lead the salsa band Bio Ritmo.

Entre Tus Flores by Miramar will be available January 10 on Ansonia Records.
