Gabo Naas – Del Tiempo y la Distancia (Gabo Naas, 2023)

In November 2023, Gabo Naas released Del Tiempo y la Distancia, an album that brings together original compositions with contributions from renowned South American musicians.

The album was recorded in Berlin, Germany, and features collaborations with artists including Daniel Maza (electric bass), Hernán Jacinto and Alejandro Soto Lacoste (piano/Rhodes), Quique Sinesi (acoustic guitar), Fabián Miodownik (drums and cuerda de tambores), as well as percussionists Quintino Cinalli, Minino Garay, and Hugo Bravo. Other notable contributors include Pedro Giraudo, Juan Pablo Navarro, and David Hagen (double bass), and Marta Topferova (vocals).

Naas, originally from Argentine Patagonia, was influenced early on by Latin American folk music, learning guitar and bombo legüero with his father. His musical journey expanded to include clarinet, which he studied in his hometown before pursuing formal training as a multi-instrumentalist.

After relocating to Córdoba, Naas focused on composition, specializing in Latin American music and jazz. He is proficient in multiple instruments, including guitar, voice, saxophone, charango, clarinet, violin, bass, and bombo legüero. As a consequence, he built a diverse skill set and a remarkable career.

From 2005 to 2008, Naas lived in Buenos Aires, where he became a key figure in the local music scene as a composer and director of a Latin jazz ensemble. He later moved to Berlin, forming a Latin jazz quartet, composing music for films, and collaborating with musicians across genres, from Cuban to African influences.

In recent years, Naas has focused on integrating traditional Latin American styles with modern jazz, drawing on his deep understanding of Argentine music and South American folk traditions. His experience as a multi-instrumentalist adds depth to his exquisite, colorful and finely crafted sound. Moreover, Naas has a pristine and delightful vocal style that adds even more charm to his music.

Musicians: Gabo Naas on vocals and guitar on all tracks, Marta Topferova on vocals; Hernán Jacinto on piano and Rhodes; Alejandro Soto Lacoste on piano and Rhodes; Quique Sinesi on acoustic guitar; David Hagen on acoustic bass; Pedro Giraudo on acoustic bass; Juan Pablo Navarro on acoustic bass; Hugo Bravo, Minino Garay and Quintino Cinalli on percussion; and Fabián Miodownik on drums and cuerda de tambores.
