Duo Peylet-Cuniot: A Retrospective of Klezmer and Hasidic Music

Duo Peylet-Cuniot – Klezmer, niguns & co (Buda Musique, 2024)

Duo Peylet-Cuniot, formed in 1980 by clarinetist Nano Peylet and pianist Denis Cuniot, is known for their dedication to Klezmer and Hasidic music. Their discography spans three key albums: Volume 1: Music of the Klezmorim and Their Descendants (1989); Volume 2: Klezmer Music of Yesterday and Tomorrow (1992); and Volume 3: Klezmer: For the Love of Niguns (2000)

Peylet and Cuniot’s passion for Klezmer music is evident in their performances, which highlight the beauty of traditional melodies and the expressive capabilities of the clarinet. While neither artist is of Jewish heritage, they are deeply committed to exploring and sharing this cultural tradition with diverse audiences. Their goal is to help Klezmer music evolve into a global source of inspiration for musicians, drawing parallels to the improvisational nature of jazz.
