Söndörgő – Gyezz (Ground Up Music / L’Autre Distribution, 2024)

Hungarian ensemble Söndörgő has enlisted the talents of a distinguished guest for their latest album, Gyezz. Renowned American saxophonist Chris Potter lends his extraordinary skill to the project, infusing the album with a distinctive jazz flair. Consequently, this release is a masterful fusion of Hungarian folk traditions and sophisticated jazz improvisation.

Gyezz features a compelling array of structured solos and improvisational passages, exhibiting dynamic interplay and robust ensemble cohesion. Saxophone aficionados, in particular, will find much to admire.

Söndörgő includes Ábel Dénes on: double bass, tapan; Áron Eredics on first tambura, tambura cello, darbuka, tapan; Benjamin Eredics on kontra tambura, trumpet; Dávid Eredics on alto tambourine, clarinet, alto saxophone, kaval; Salamon Eredics on alto tambourine, accordion, hulusi, frula.

Chris Potter appears on tracks 1, 2, 5, 8.
