Jamaican-Canadian-American trumpeter Darren Barrett Presents Funk-fueled “The Get Down 4 Real”

Jamaican-Canadian-American trumpet player and composer Darren Barrett has a new project titled The Get Down 4 Real, a funk album inspired by James Brown backbeats. The first release from the project is the single of the same name, “The Get Down 4 Real.”

On The Get Down 4 Real: Step Step Steppin’, Barrett makes subtle, effective use of effects pedals on his trumpet, including delay and wah wah.

Darren Barrett has shared a stage with D’Angelo, Herbie Hancock, Common, and a number of prominent jazz players. Also playing on the album is guitar master Jeffrey Lockhart (Beyoncé, Dido) and Clara Moser.
