Edita Gumauskaitė and Marius Narbutis – Dram bam burtai (2023)

Lithuanian artists Edita Gumauskaitė and Marius Narbutis collaborate on Dram bam burtai, a captivating fusion of mystical folktronica. The project seamlessly bridges two distinct musical traditions: electronica and folk music. At its helm is Marius Narbutis, a distinguished creator, producer, and member of the group Happyendless, representing the electronic facet. Meanwhile, on the folk music front we have Edita Gumauskaitė, a talented violinist and highly regarded producer of traditional music.

Their synergy culminated in the release of Folkgardas a year earlier; an album that epitomizes their artistic union. Folkgardas elevated the electronic landscape with its rich synthesizer sounds, pulsating drum and bass, intricate breaks, and dynamic rhythms. This electronic wizardry is intricately interwoven with the flavors of the Baltic, the soulful strains of fiddle and shepherd instruments, and the timeless resonance of the violin.

Assisting the duo is Mantas Zigmantas, a skilled guitarist whose contributions further enhance the project’s sonic depth and complexity.

Edita Gumauskaitė – violin, kankles, ukulele, kleket, kiaulė, kalimba, skudučiai (set of pipes), vocals, archival documentary; Marius Narbutis – vocals, whistle, horns, straw horn, keyboards, electronics; and Mantas Zygmantas – electric guitar.

Archival documentation: Institute of Lithuanian Literature, Lithuanian folklore archive, documentary; LMTA musical folklore archive.
