Subhen Chatterjee, born September 26, 1962, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, is a leading tabla player.
Subhen bases his style of playing that he learned from his guru (teacher) Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri. Afterward, he went on to learn the intricacies of other Gharanas (tabla schools) and thus has made his style of playing unique.
Apart from accompanying most leading musicians of India, Subhen went to improvise with renowned international figures such as David Cosby and Paul Horn. He performed regularly at world music festival WOMAD. Moreover, Subhen is also one of the founders of Karma, a leading Indian fusion band and the very first from eastern India, back in 1985.
Since 2001, Subhen has been collaborating with percussion wizard Sivamani and formed another outstanding band called Friends of Drums, along with other drummers.
