The all-female African supergroup Les Amazones d’Afrique have unveiled their latest single, ‘Flaws‘, marking the beginning of 2024 with infectious rhythms and compelling melodies. Featuring the powerhouse vocals of Mamani Keïta and Fafa Ruffino, the track features instantly memorable hooks and benefits from the expert production ability of Jacknife Lee (known for his work with U2, Modest Mouse, and Taylor Swift). ‘Flaws’ serves as a preview of their upcoming third album, Musow Danse, set for release on February 16, 2024.
In addition to the release of the single, the group has also rolled out an accompanying music video directed by Zambian contemporary dance artist and choreographer Kennedy Muntanga. The video highlights Mamani Keïta alongside a group of spirited teenage dancers from the ACE Dance and Music school in Birmingham, England. Their performance exudes charm and youthful energy, perfectly capturing the song’s message of self-love and acceptance. Filmed at ACE’s rehearsal studio, the video is a heartwarming visual representation of the song’s themes.
With Musow Danse, Les Amazones d’Afrique take aim at gender inequality. The album showcases the talents of six remarkable vocalists — Alvie Bitemo, Dobet Gnahoré, Kandy Guira, Mamani Keïta, Nneka, and Fafa Ruffino — who sing in a variety of languages, championing freedom, joy, and the power of unity. Their collective voices resonate with strength and determination, delivering a message of female empowerment that is both fierce and danceable.
