Kora Player Ablaye Cissoko and Accordion Player Cyrille Brotto to Perform at Nimoy Stage, January 20

Renowned Senegalese kora virtuoso, Ablaye Cissoko, and accomplished French accordionist-composer, Cyrille Brotto, are set to captivate audiences at UCLA’s Nimoy Stage on January 20, 2024. As part of CAP UCLA’s 2023-2024 season, this collaboration promises an engaging mix of Senegalese and French musical traditions.

Cissoko, a leading kora player, brings the rich traditions of West Africa to life through his mastery of this traditional stringed instrument. Known for seamlessly fusing Mandinka griot traditions with modern musical expressions, Cissoko has established himself as a versatile collaborator across diverse genres, including world music, jazz, classical, and baroque.

In tandem with Cissoko, Brotto, an adept diatonic accordionist and multi-instrumentalist, adds a European flair to the collaboration. His distinguished career in performance and education spans across the continent, contributing to the dynamic fusion of cultural influences that characterizes this unique musical partnership.

The duo released an album titled Instant in 2022.
