The second edition of Festival Malungo will continue to pay homage to Brazilian Black Culture with free in-person and video shows by 7 artists representing Brazilian Black music. The series is a showcase of new music bringing together artists representing a diversity of styles within Brazilian popular music, which highlight their African origin.
The in-person shows will be held in November at CU cultural centers in the city of São Paulo, and the Online shows will air in February 2024.
The first concert will take place this morning at 10:00 a.m. It will spotlight Clarianas, a group of urban singers that investigates the voice of the “ancestral” woman in Brazilian popular music. The voice is the guiding thread that reveals a wide, genuinely Brazilian sound universe, ranging from indigenous songs to aboios sertanejos, including brincantes do côco, ladainhas of Popular Catholicism, sambas de roda, maracatus, xotes, prayers and African drums.
