Scottish Artist Ailie Robertson Unveils Cradle Song

Harp player Ailie Robertson has a new single out titled “Cradle Song.” This piece is a version of J.S Skinner’s beautiful lullaby, Cradle Song.

Ailie Robertson is a prominent composer from Scotland, has garnered numerous accolades for her musical contributions. Her impressive body of work has received commissions from some of the world’s most prestigious cultural institutions. Notably, she has been commissioned by the BBC Proms, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Scottish Ensemble, Red Note, Bang on a Can, The RSNO, Cappella Nova, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, The Scottish Chamber Choir, and the Riot Ensemble. Her tenure as a composer-in-residence includes Sound Festival from 2019 to 2022 and Glyndebourne Opera from 2020 to 2022.

Ailie’s achievements in new music have not gone unnoticed. She was honored with the ‘Achievement in New Music’ prize at the inaugural Scottish Awards for New Music. Additionally, she has received prizes for ‘Best Chamber work’ and ‘Innovation in New Music.’

Dr. Robertson holds a PhD in composition from Trinity Laban Conservatoire, highlighting her expertise in crafting a wide range of musical compositions. Her portfolio spans concert music and film scores, encompassing collaborations with traditional choirs and abstract, site-specific installations. Beyond conventional concert hall compositions, she displays a fervor for creating music tailored to amateurs, young audiences, theater productions, and unconventional, site-specific projects.

Among her noteworthy works and performances are the following:

"Chaconne" - Premiered by the Dunedin Consort at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall.
"Pay the Piper" - An exceptional contribution to Glyndebourne Opera.
"Archetypes" - Featured in the 2022 tour of the Scottish Ensemble.
"Motherhood" - Presented at the Sound Festival and Exaudi.
"Caoineadh" - An impressive composition performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
"Unfurl" - Co-commissioned by Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and Sound Festival, performed by the Red Note Ensemble.
"The Bells Are All Silent" - A commission from Bang on a Can.
"Orpheus" - Showcased by the RSNO Community Orchestra.
"The Seven Sorrows" - Part of the Celtic Connections Festival repertoire.
