Yannis Fyssas – Xenitemena Tragoudia (Hybrid Soundworks Inc, 2023)
Greek musician and composer Yannis Fyssas, based in Canada since 1981, released his 3rd album titled Xenitemena Tragoudia (Expatriated Songs) on August 8, 2023. After five years of recording and collaborations spanning various countries, including Canada, Mexico, Greece, Turkey, France, and Cyprus, Yannis presents 13 sociopolitically tinged songs.
The album features a unique and engaging mix of Western and Greek instruments, pushing the boundaries of Contemporary Folk, Greek Traditional, and Western music sensibilities.
Yannis has a background in writing, recording, and producing albums since 1992 and has worked as a Sound Designer for notable gaming companies. “Xenitemena Tragoudia” captures the sentiment and longing for one’s homeland shared by the Greek diaspora of more than 7 million individuals currently living outside Greece.
