Silvia Pérez Cruz: An Enchanting Vocalist

Silvia Pérez Cruz is a highly talented Spanish artist known for her captivating voice and exceptional musical abilities. She has a deep understanding of various genres, particularly Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American folk music, as well as classical and jazz. Her connection to flamenco is especially profound, and she enthralls audiences with her unique vocal style.

Sílvia Pérez Cruz was born in Palafrugell, Spain, in 1983. Pérez Cruz began her musical education at a young age and studied a wide range of subjects, including classical saxophone and piano, jazz and flamenco vocals, composition, and improvisation. She holds a jazz vocal degree from the ESMUC. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with renowned artists from different backgrounds and has performed with prestigious orchestras.

She started her professional career as a vocalist in the acclaimed and successful all-female flamenco group Las Migas in 2004.

As a composer and solo artist, Pérez Cruz has achieved critical acclaim and popular success. Her debut album, “11 de novembre,” and her collaborative album, “Granada,” both achieved gold record status. She has also composed music for theatrical productions and film soundtracks, earning awards and nominations for her work.

Pérez Cruz’s exploration of music and artistic expression continues with each project. Her album “Vestida de nit” highlights her sonic investigation and improvisation skills. She has also collaborated with flamenco dancer Rocío Molina and composed an original score for the play “Cyrano.”

In her live performances and recordings, Pérez Cruz has collaborated with pianist Marco Mezquida and pushed the boundaries of artistic expression by incorporating elements of cinema, dance, poetry, and theater into her music. Her recent accolades include the National Prize for Contemporary Music and the Pávez Award for Best Original Soundtrack.

In 2022, Pérez Cruz received the prestigious National Prize for Contemporary Music awarded by the Ministry of Culture and the Pop Eye al Duende Award, both in recognition of her career. Additionally, she received the Pávez Award for Best Original Soundtrack for her work on the short film Maruja (Berta Garcia-Lacht, 2021).

With her international presence and extensive touring, Pérez Cruz has enchanted audiences worldwide and solidified her status as a prominent figure in contemporary music. Her mesmerizing voice, musicality, and artistic vision continue to leave a lasting impact on the industry, setting new standards for excellence.
