Britt Pernille Frøholm – Årringar (Kviven Records, 2021)
“Årringar” is Britt Pernille Frøholm‘s fourth solo album, presenting her compositions and performances of traditional folk tunes. With Sigurd Hole on double bass, the album takes listeners on an exploratory and engaging journey through the seasons of Northwestern Norway, highlighting the contrasts between winter and spring.
On “Årringar,” Frøholm seamlessly intertwines folk music with deeply mesmerizing ambient music elements, as well as improvised sections.
Frøholm skillfully brings her traditional roots into the modern world, challenging the limits of her heritage and highlighting the power and nerve of Northwestern music.
“Årringar” is a meditation on the cyclical nature of life, symbolized by the growth rings of a tree stub, and the passing of the long winters and short summers in the northwestern part of Norway. Frøholm found inspiration in traditional folk songs from Nordfjord and Sunnmøre and arranged the album with Hole.
Musicians: Britt Pernille Frøholm on Hardanger fiddle; and Sigurd Hole on double bass.
