Andereya Baguma is a multi-talented artist hailing from Kampala, Uganda. With a diverse background in Afro-fusion, World Music, Afro-soul, guitar playing, songwriting, voice acting, and traditional dance, he has established himself as a respected figure in the African music scene.
Early Inspiration and Education
Andereya was initially drawn to the guitar after being inspired by Maurice Kirya, Pompi, and Oliver Mtukudzi. He started playing in Kamwookya before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Makerere University. Today, he is a highly sought-after performer, in addition to being the founder of Nze Music, an A&R, booking, and management company dedicated to promoting authentic and unique African music.
Career Highlights
Andereya has garnered acclaim for his talents, winning the Penda Uganda Song Contest and releasing his debut solo album, “Andereya,” at the prestigious Uganda National Cultural Centre. He has performed at a range of local and international events, including Sofar Sounds, Pearl Rhythm Festival, Kigampala Festival, Jamafest, Kenya Music Festival, and Ethno Music in Malawi.
Collaborations and Festivals
Andereya has also collaborated with several popular Ugandan bands, including Msetonation Band, Baximba Waves Jazz Band, and Akadope, among others. He founded and hosts the “Endongo Munsiko” music festival, which focuses on regional music within Uganda, nature, and tourism. Additionally, he has launched a new concert series, “Embozzi Z’ekyoto,” which features spoken word and music around a bonfire, telling stories.
Andereya recently formed a cross-cultural collaborative duo with US singer and songwriter Kate Bass. Their debut album, “Conversations,” was crowdfunded and supported by the US Embassy. His music has also been featured on prominent media outlets, such as “Good Morning Uganda” and the “Sanyu” TV series, as well as in partnership with Nkoza and Nankya Films.
Awards
Andereya’s musical excellence has been recognized with several accolades, including the second prize of the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) in the world music category for the song “Mbasabira.”
