Santiago Córdoba – En Otros Lugares (Sounds and Colours, 2019)
Santiago Córdoba’s second solo album, En Otros Lugares, was released in 2019. The album blends propellant psychedelic rock rhythms, Argentine folk music, and electronic textures. Santiago plays Spanish guitar and synths, as well as singing, in a result that is far removed from his previous work in tango group Violentango. The album is fueled by life on the road and musical curiosity and features moments of peaceful folktronica, but Santiago rarely eases off, any moment of minimal bliss soon enveloped by insistent drums, repetitive guitar patterns or electronic swells. En Otros Lugares is a thrilling listen that showcases Santiago’s sonic identity as he explores new territory, never concerned with genres or musical trends.
Santiago Córdoba is a percussionist who was a member of Argentine tango group Violentango and made his solo debut in 2015 with the album Corso, which explores rhythms and textures influenced by folk icons and free jazz percussionists. His music is mainly instrumental and combines folk poetry, percussive psych rock, and minimal electronica. He splits his time between Berlin and Buenos Aires while touring with Violentango.
The album was recorded between June 2016 and January 2018 in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Madrid (Spain), Beirut (Lebanon) and Ferrara (Italy).
