Swarupa Ananth-Sawkar, a talented percussionist and producer, learned the guidance of Ustad Allarakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain. She has been an exceptionally talented performer from a tender age. In 2014, she released her album, ‘Raagatronic,’ with collaborator Shriram Sampath, which promptly topped the iTunes India charts.
As a skilled performer and producer, Swarupa has collaborated with several national and international artists and performed at many prominent venues and festivals worldwide, including the Glastonbury Festival in the UK, Kala Ghoda Festival in Mumbai, Alchemy Festival at Southbank Centre in London, and Wassermusik Festival in Berlin.
In addition, Swarupa operates Tablanaari’s School of Music, an online music school that promotes Indian classical music. In 2022, she was one of the 21 artists from around the world selected for the music residency program, OneBeat 9, which took place at the Atlantic Center for Arts in Florida and was supported fully by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Furthermore, she serves on the artist advisory board of Drum Summit and ‘hitlikeagirl,’ a global community empowering women through drumming.
Recently, Swarupa launched her debut solo album titled ‘Recomeçar‘ on all digital platforms.
