Tamikrest, the globally renowned rock collective hailing from the Sahara Desert in Mali, will be performing at Massey Theatre in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada with their singular sound on May 26, 2023. Fresh off their successful international tour and the well-deserved acclaim garnered by their latest album, Tamotait, this powerhouse group will deliver a night of desert blues in their inimitable musical style.
The name Tamikrest, derived from the tamasheq language, denotes junction, connection, knot, and coalition, and their music, while rooted in Ishumar Rock or Tuareg Blues, draws inspiration from diverse international influences as well as neighboring cultures. With musicians from Mali, Niger, Algeria, and France, the band formed in Kidal has incorporated American rock, reggae, world music, and folk into their sound. As the band aptly puts it, “A desert hosts us, a language unites us, a culture binds us.”
