Payadora Tango Ensemble Tops the World Music Charts Europe in March 2023

Silent Tears: The Last Yiddish Tango” by Payadora Tango Ensemble is the top album at the World Music Charts Europe in March 2023. “Silent Tears: The Last Yiddish Tango” is based on poems, testimonies, and writings of women from Poland who were victims of sexual violence, forced sterilization and human experimentation during the Holocaust. Some songs are from a project led by Dr. Paula David, a social worker at a Toronto Jewish care home who helped survivors process their trauma by writing collective poetry. Others are from Molly Applebaum, a Toronto-based author, who, during her adolescent years, was buried underground in a small wooden box in a barn in Dabrowa, Poland during the war.

Winner of 2 Yiddish Music Awards on Best New Yiddish Song and Best Music Video; the album features an award-winning team of musicians: Rebekah Wolkstein on violin, composer; Drew Jurecka on bandoneón, arranger, producer, Grammy-award winning engineer; Olga Avigail Mieleszczuk on vocals; Aviva Chernick on vocals; Lenka Lichtenberg on vocals; Marta Kosiorek on vocals; Robert Horvath on piano; Joseph Phillips on double bass; Dan Rosenberg on executive producer; Sergiu Popa on accordion.
