Marya Stark is a talented vocalist, composer, performer, and multi-instrumentalist. She is also a storyteller and muse, using music to explore the human experience and bring her audience on soul-stirring journeys.
As a multimedia artist, Marya creates music instinctively and with passion, bringing myth, mystery, and medicine songs to life in her performances. A native of Arizona, Marya honed her skills at the Arizona School for the Arts and Chapman Music Conservatory.
With a background in classical vocal training and a love for music, mysticism and sound healing, Marya became a music therapist. This inspired a prolific period of songwriting, capturing her own personal growth and the mythopoetic universe.
Marya’s sound is a wonderful mix of ethereal indie folk, ambient music, dreampop and healing sounds.
Over the past years, Marya has used her musical skills to make a positive effect, working with at-risk youth, addiction recovery, mental health, hospice care, and special needs communities. She has also continued her studies in medical qigong therapy, relationship health, meditation, and womb wisdom, and has independently produced and released albums.
Her album “Sapphire” has been well-received, with airplay from NPR and recognition as one of the Top 25 Featured Artists for October on Echos. The album was created in collaboration with Joshua Penman of Akara.
When not performing or composing, Marya shares her skills as a mentor, teaching the art of voice, nurturing the muse, and songwriting. She established the Temple of the Muse and guides individuals through immersive expressive arts experiences, vocal core resonance training, and womb wisdom within the Rose Bard Arts.
In 2022, she co-founded a modern American folk roots ensemble called Starling Arrow along with four other talented female vocalists and songwriters, including Leah Song and Chloe Smith (of Rising Appalachia), Tina Malia, and Ayla Nereo.
