The highly anticipated new album Voyageur from legendary African guitarist and singer Ali Farka Touré is set to be released on March 10th by World Circuit Records.
To build excitement for this new release, World Circuit is presenting the first track, “Cherie,” featuring the acclaimed Malian diva, Oumou Sangaré, who has been a long-time friend of Touré.
Regarding the collaboration, which was recorded in London back in 1995 and has remained unreleased until now, Sangaré offers her thoughts: “Ali Farka Touré was not only an important artist, but he was also a humanitarian. He provided me with a lot of support when I started out in music, like a protective big brother, and he was proud of my achievements on African development. Ali and I often used to sing together for Malian audiences, and this session is the only recorded trace of our musical harmony. Sadly, Ali is no longer with us…but I know he would have been very pleased with it. I am very proud to have participated in this album.”
