Ayla Nereo is a multi-talented artist hailing from the mountains of eastern California. Her diverse background as a singer, composer, producer, dancer, and visual-poetry creator has influenced her unique musical style, which seamlessly blends elements of different genres. Ayla’s songs are like no other, as she effortlessly moves between vocal looping, produced beats, live drumming, orchestral strings, Celtic melodies, and electronic soundscapes and beats. Her lyrical poetry, infused with language riddles, weaves together wondrous tapestries of sound and story.
Growing up surrounded by forests and rivers, Ayla’s music is a bridge between the timeless and modern, capturing the essence of magic and emotion. Despite an intense fear of singing, Ayla began sharing her music in college, thanks to the encouragement of those around her. Her journey of facing her fears and embracing her voice has transformed her into the powerful performer she is today, touching the hearts of audiences around the world with her inspiring music.
Her debut album was Play Me A Time (2006), followed by Floating Felt (2009), BeHeld (2012), Hollow Bone (2014), Hollow Bone Remixes (2015), and The Code of the Flowers (2016).
Ayla is also known for her work with the folktronica and indie folk duo Wildlight that includes David Sugalski of The Polish Ambassador.
In 2019, Ayla released her sixth solo album, “By The Light of the Dark Moon” through Jumpsuit Records.
In 2022, she co-founded Starling Arrow together with Leah Song, Chloe Smith (of Rising Appalachia), Tina Malia, and Marya Stark
Ayla is now preparing to release her seventh solo album, which will be the first in a four-part sonic saga, in early 2023.
