Afro Pepites, a competition designed to promote emerging African talent, has announced the 2023 winners.
The Golden Pepite goes to Juste Parfait, a satirical humorist from the republic of Congo.
The Second Pepite was given to Beninese sculptor and painter Marcel Kpoh.
The Third Pepite was bestowed to Congolese multi-instrumentalist Francesco Nchikala (Democratic Republic of the Congo). Francesco Nchikala was born in Lubumbashi and is known as the “griot of Congo Kinshasa.” He plays guitar, violin, saxophone, accordion and piano.
Francesco Nchikala combines smooth jazz, blues, rock, folk music and rumba, which he calls Katanga.
