Waves of Joy Presents the Fascinating World of the Bauls of Bengal

The audio and DVD set “Waves of Joy – Bauls of Bengal” is a fascinating introduction to the music and poetry of the bauls of Bengal. This set contains material collected by Indian ethnomusicologist Deben Bhattacharya.

“Waves of Joy – Bauls of Bengal” features classics composed by historically acclaimed bauls such as Matam Chand Gosain and leading philosopher Lalon Shah Fakir as well as contemporary bauls such as movie actor and folk musician Mujib Pardeshi and lyricist and composer Bhaba Pagla.

The songs on the audio CD were recorded in Shantiniketan in 2001. Meanwhile, the DVD includes a movie titled ‘Waves of Joy’ shot by Deben Bhattacharya in 1973 at the Kenduli Mela in West Bengal. Kenduli Mela is a large musical and religious gathering that takes place in Kenduli, birthplace of the famous poet Jaidev in the Birbhum district of West Bengal.
